KANOJO @ the moment 2/3

Acrylic Gouache on Paper
33.3x24.2cm or 22.7x15.8cm
2009
CONCEPT
If I have to define the theme of these pieces, I would
rather call it "affection".
The motifs are various faces expressed by KANOJO
(Female Lover). Some of them are visible only to the
nearest person KARESHI (Male Lover) and I tried to draw
them through his eyes.
Her pretty aspect that includes her innocent smile,
charming face, and fascinating beauty is dedicated only
to KARESHI. Because he is the nearest person, however,
he might also see another aspect of her that is not
supposed to be revealed. This one may consist of flat-
tering, bluff, and even pretended smile that hides her
disappointment.
Both these aspects contradictorily form an individual,
but it still has been precious person to her counterpart
all the time. This is KANOJO: what I tried to represent.

I adopted a technique like Japanese calligraphy.
Holding a brush, calming myself down, I draw it up at a
stretch.
I sometimes let brush strokes and color blurs go out of
control, and they turned out to be subtle nuances.
Watered colors spread onto paper made delicate touch
and unclear outline, and they retained several movements
on the surface such as fading, instability, and flexibility.
These elements as a whole captured the atmosphere
between KARESHI and KANOJO which included many dif-
ferent emotions and some contradiction.
